Sharon Anena tells African Stories

Wie ihr vielleicht wisst, begleite ich die Eco Fashion Designerin Sharon Anena seit einigen Jahren auf diesem Blog. Sharon lebt und arbeitet in Gulu, Uganda. Schritt für Schritt hat sie ihr in vielerlei Hinsicht nachhaltiges Label „Ajura“ aufgebaut. Im Dezember 2023 launchte Sharon eine neue Kollektion. Das erste Mal als eigenes Event. „Our vision keeps changing as we go and I believe we now know what we stand for as a fashion brand”, hat sie mir vor kurzem geschrieben und dabei Fotos vom Launch geschickt. Die Kollektion ist sehr gelungen finde ich, daher möchte ich euch einiges davon vorstellen. Und ich habe Sharon einige Fragen gestellt.Sharon, you said your vision is changing, what does your brand now stand for?

We are now telling African Stories through fashion. And this means we are using original African made fabric and designs from different parts of Africa to make our collections.

What inspired you?

The collection was inspired by the diversity of the stories that come with the fabrics. In Africa, there are many stories that come with fashion and style. So, this specific collection was inspired by the Ghanaian and local community stories. We sourced fabric from Ghana and supplemented this with our locally printed designs with leaves collected from local trees, all of which have stories to tell. How would you describe the „style-identity“ of your collection?

Diverse, unique, and trendy.

Next steps?

Our next step is to conclude on the research around the original local trees that will provide us with the leaves to print on fabric that will help us create our collections.What else?

We plan to have our collections showcased every end of the year so that our clients can then know what’s coming and how they can prepare to have our collections in their closets. Every year, we at least intend to have 5 different designs produced for the market.Interessiert an Sharons neuer Kollektion? Wendet euch am besten an sie via Instagram. Sie würde sehr gerne auch in und nach Europa verkaufen. Unsere schon länger geplante Uganda Reise soll nun Ende des Jahres stattfinden. Und wenn alles klappt, zeigt Sharon dann auch wieder eine neue Kollektion, vielleicht sogar in Kampala, der Hauptstadt Ugandas. Endlich kann ich dann mit eigenen Augen sehen, was Sharon seit Jahren auf die Beine stellt. Darüber gibt’s dann natürlich wieder einen Blog-Artikel.
