Meet the Locals #21: Davide, 38 technician from Siracusa

Cristina Vezzaro

Ladies and Gentlemen, please meet Davide.

Your name (with or without last name), age and job?

Davide Mauro, 38 y.o. working in shift as a technician in a refinery.

Where are you from?

Siracusa, in Sicily.

What would you be if you were not a shift worker? / What do you want to be when you grow up?

A writer and a cultural journalist./Work less and think more.

How long have you lived in Siracusa and why did you first come?

I spent all my life here and I don’t want to change!

What is the best thing to do (what do you like doing ) in Siracusa?

I like to host or to meet travellers with couchsurfing, it’s an opportunity to share experience and discover the world at home.

Is there something you don’t like about Siracusa?

I don’t like the quality of public transport and many other services. The low quality of the job market and ignorance make of Siracusa a B-level town.

What is the craziest thing you have done in Siracusa?

Moving by bike in a town that thinks biking is crazy.

Where would you live if not in Siracusa?

In Rome or in a little town in the Ragusa Province.

Have you ever been to Bolzano/Bozen – South Tyrol/Suedtirol/Alto Adige?

Once in Trento and  a few hours in Bolzano after a little tour of the Dolomites.

What did you like / did not like about it?

I liked the views and the quiet life in the farm, everything is perfect and clean!

Anything else you would like to add?

I envy the kind of sustainable life you increase with your bicycle paths and green economy.
