Meet the locals #18: Marco, 49, Managing Director of Car Sharing Services

Cristina Vezzaro

I have done quite a few home exchanges in the past few years, and one of them was with a very happy family from Genoa. Although I have never met them in person, I was very lucky to spend a few days at their place while they were visiting my hometown and staying at my place. They live in a very central location in Genoa, and their home is full of colors and light and joy and life. This is why I thought of them to depict yet another city. Ladies and Gentlemen, please meet Marco.

Your name, age and job?
Marco, 49, Managing Director of Car Sharing service

Where are you from?
Genoa, Italy

What would you be if you were not a Managing Director?
A saxophone player

How long have you lived in Genoa and why did you first come?
I was born in Genoa, but I moved to Mogadishu and Kinshasa to work. I came back in Genoa for the riots in Kinshasa (Kabila vs Mobutu).

What is the best thing to do (what do you like doing ) in Genoa?
Going to the beach after a hard day of work or wandering in the Historic Centre of Genoa. Taking a beer with friends sitting out at a table in a little square, like in “S.Cosma e Damiano”.

Is there something you don’t like about Genoa?
Sometimes it’s too “narrow minded”

What is the craziest thing you have done in Genoa?
A lot of things…We usually organize “open dinners” with all the people in the neighborhood, on the street. Everybody takes something to eat and we share. The square and the streets are full of people!

Where would you live if not in Genoa?
I really don’t know.

Have you ever been to (South) Tyrol, Bolzano/Bozen or Trento?
I’ve been to Trento and Bolzano, but only shortly. I’ve been to South Tyrol on vacation, in summer and winter.

What did you like / did not like about it?
I like the mountains, of course. I like the organization and the way they welcome the tourists, with all their different needs (I came from Genoa, and we are not so good…) Sometimes I have found the prices were too high and there were too many people on the snow.

Anything else you would like to add?
I think you are very lucky to live in South Tyrol …
