Willkommen im Hotel Amazonas, Sarah Majerus

Sarah Majerus 2010 Untitled2 130x100cm oil on canvas

Sarah Majerus was born in Luxembourg in 1986. She majored in visual Arts option Painting in E.N.S.A.V. La Cambre in Brussels, in 2010. She lives and works in Brussels.

Perception is not one, but plural, individual, and changing. It is deeply ingrained in subjectivity. It multiplies and divides itself; it breaks and builds. This is the recurring theme of her research. Her work reflects the multitude of points of view that surrounds us, especially in the cities.

The paintings are progressively moving towards a synthesis of overlapping forms from the urban pattern, a reformulated aesthetic in urban architecture. The designs are built from a mélange, repetition and multiplication of the existing structures of cities. Spaces in her work are not pre-defined, the viewer defines the different sensory perceptions, whether consciously or not, as in daily experience: windows suddenly reflect the same colour as the sky at nightfall; building structures with walls, a skeleton, a motif with regular holes, constantly revisited with a new content, depending on the light or the angle of perspective.

During the Hotel Amazonas residency, she plans on foiling her usual working rhythm. The unique notion of time and environment of south Tyrol will induce her work to adapt and play with the contrast of this particular surrounding.
