Millions Like Us headliner a Love Electro 2012, l’intervista

Marco Bassetti

Why should or do millions like you?
The way that we intended our name to be interpreted is “there are millions like us”. We quite like that it can interpreted in more than one way, but it was never a conscious decision for the name to mean “millions of people like us”. Of course, if that were the case that would be great!

What does music mean to you?
Music consumes every day of our lives and we love it. Obviously, as with any creative process there are ups and downs, good days and bad days. We’ve all been into music from young ages and all played instruments growing up. We made a decision to try and make a hobby into a career so that sometimes effects how you think or feel about music, but ultimately you have to step back and remember why you got into it, and that’s for the love of it!

How did you meet each other, how did Millions Like Us come to be?
Tom and I (Ian) are brothers, so we’ve known each other from an early age! We were making drum and bass together in Brighton whilst Tom and Chris were in an indie band. That band ended up splitting up, but Tom and Chris wanted to carry on making music together. We ended up working together on both projects so the natural thing seemed to be to join forces on the same project.

Which artist would you like to work with in your life?
There are probably loads! We’ve already been lucky enough to work with some great artist/musicians like SOFI/Tommy Lee and Foreign Beggars, which was cool. I think we’d like to work with anyone that has their own style and is creative with what they do. Let’s just say for some examples; Noisia, Disclosure, Dave Grohl and Delilah! A good mix in there.

How do you imagine the music of the future?
That’s a very difficult question! It’s always changing and seems to happen so fast. I don’t think it’s going to go in any specific direction, which is for the best! People are always going to innovate, putting their own stamp on genres or styles of music, so it can’t stay as one thing for very long. We don’t see the EDM scene slowing down any time soon.

What are your future projects?
We are currently finishing off a bunch of new original tunes, so will be looking to release them in the next couple of months. We’ve also got a couple of remixes coming out soon and we wrote/produced a tune for the Foreign Beggars album which is being released on Mau5trap very soon.

The 21st of July you’re playing in South Tyrol. What do you already know about this Electro Festival?
To be honest we hadn’t heard much about it before we got booked, but looking at the line up , we can’t wait to play there! We’ve never been booked in Italy before so we’re looking forward to it. Steve Aoki is putting out some great music at the moment too, so we’re looking forward to his set.
